Morning Light by Bethany Deschamp

one of my biggest photography goals this year is to not be so intimidated by light.  i felt like i was limiting myself to only using really bright light which, in turn, was limiting my photography because the brightest light is only available during a few hours of the day.  i have been personally challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone with my photography and try new things.  and when this beautiful morning light fell onto our bed, i knew that my initial feeling of being very initimated by hard light meant that i must try and experiment with it.

as photographers, i think we get in our comfort zone with styles and light.  but it is also important to branch out, especially if we are not photographing a certain way because of intimidation.  i think there is a huge different is not photographing a certain way because you don’t like to versus not photographing a certain way because you don’t know how to.  for me, photographing hard light was something i hadn’t done much of, so it proved to be an opportunity for learning.  in the end, i really liked the way the light played across the skin and created shapes through the opening of the window.  while photographing in hard light may not be my go-to, it definitely has me curious on what else i can do with it and has opened the door to a little more though and experimenting with my camera.
