Ballet Sweet Ballet | Designing A Toddler Ballerina Room
almost 3 years ago exactly, my husband put together our daughter’s crib when I was about 20 weeks pregnant. we planned and planned every detail of her nursery and created a space to bring her home to. it seemed like she would be in her nursery forever but, here we are, suddenly with a 2 1/2 year old who is ready to have a big girl bed. we started thinking about making the crib to bed transition during the summer, giving me plenty of time to dream up and have fun designing a toddler ballerina room. and while most husbands aren’t really into details, my husband was found right next to me analyzing each and every big girl bed during the process of choosing her perfect next bed. needless to say, we both enjoyed shopping for her new room. it was like crib shopping all over again, only wanting the best for our little sweet pea.
wanting her to transition well, we started talking to her about getting a big girl bed for weeks ahead of time. once we finally purchased the actual bed, we showed her pictures of it and did a countdown until it’s delivery date. (p.s. pottery barn’s white glove delivery service is amazing. think: foot booties to keep your house spotless, blankets on the ground for floor protection, and delivery to the actual room). once the bed arrived, we had her help daddy take down her crib and put her new bed up. (i didn’t know that the pottery barn guys were intending on putting the bed together and wasn’t ready to take down her crib when it arrived + daddy and her love projects like this!) in short, we made her a very big part of the process and kept her very involved to ensure the transition went well.
we decided to redo her room in two phases, to make sure it wasn’t too big of a change for her. the first phase was setting up her bed, and the second phase was putting her new decor up that i’ve purchased while designing a toddler ballerina room. to give you an idea of time, we set her bed up on sunday and finished up the decor on wednesday. it was a little way of slowly transitioning her so she didn’t feel like she was entirely in a brand new space all at once. and that first night in her bed, she simply said, “goodnight!” and fell asleep in minutes. me, on the other hand, woke up several times during the night to check on my baby…who was always found sleeping soundly in her big girl bed. bless her sweet ballerina heart.
while most of the items in her room are new, a few important items transitioned into her new room from her nursery. her crib medallion (blessed by our priest during her baptism, each of my girls have one) now hangs on her bed, her sophie teether remains on her dresser and her sweet baby hospital bracelet that she came home from the hospital with sits framed on her shelf. while she is a big girl, she will always be my baby and i wanted to ensure a few nostalgic items remained in her special space for the both of us.
besides being head over heels for her bed, she is in love with the swan above her bed, her ballerina sheets, and a framed photo of her and her best friend (her little sister) that sits on her bedside table. below you will find links to all the items that were chosen when designing a toddler ballerina room, should you want to recreate this space for your little one.

Lauren - Beautiful! Where did you find the blush cup with the hairbrush in it?
{beth} a-dilly - Hobby Lobby, I believe. It came as a canister, with a lid.
