The Bethadilly 52 Week 23 – Negative Space

negative space is something that i incorporate regularly into my images, making week 23 of The Bethadilly 52 somewhat effortless for me.  in northern virginia, we have been graced with some beautiful summer storms throughout the past couple weeks.  i say graced on purpose, because i really love summer storms.  i love the cozy sound of them, i love the look of them, and i really love heading outdoors after they are over…especially with my camera.  as i was waiting for some clients to arrive at a session, i noticed a beautiful stormy sky overhead.  don’t worry, it didn’t rain out my session.  in order to bring more personality to the image, instead of photographing just the sky, i placed a rooftop and surrounding trees into the bottom third of my frame for more visual interest.  in the end, i loved all of the texture found within the image, from the soft dark clouds to the crunchy leaves, to the smooth metal roof decorated with two crisp looking chimneys.  the texture and negative space within this image really come together to create a compelling image that tells a beautiful story of yet another summer storm brewing.
