The Bethadilly 52 Week 15 – Bokeh

week 15 of the bethadilly 52 has us focusing on bokeh, which is one of my favorite things to incorporate into my images.  this past weekend found me driving into the city for a newborn session in the early morning.  as normally happens when driving through the center of the city, i found myself stopping and going, stopping and going, as the stoplights went from red to green.  at every red light, i was inspired by all the lights from the stop lights to the tail lights on the cars to the lights on the buildings.  there was also an early morning glow reflecting on the buildings as the sun kept getting higher and higher into the sky.

by about the 3rd stoplight, i found the inspiration just too good and was digging out my camera from my bag in the passenger seat.  i knew that i wanted to intentionally blur the entire image, to not only create some beautiful bokeh but to also give a soft and clever perspective on the concept of traffic.  i find that i am constantly striving to photograph my everyday in a beautiful way and love when i am challenged by an idea that isn’t immediately beautiful.  by quickly switching my lens to manual focus, i was able to intentionally blur this entire image by removing focus.  i adore how this turned out, everything from the colors to the bokeh to the soft hint of the american flag on camera right.
